Autumn is here. Crisp air, beautiful colors, and cozy jumpers are only a few favorites of the new season. A change of season can also mean a change in mood, energy level, diet and even skin. I know for me when the seasons change, my skin reacts as well. You may also want to tweak your skincare routine, and if you don’t have one, maybe it’s time for one. Like anything else, I’m an advocate for natural skincare remedies that keep you healthy and the environment happy.
Let’s start with the basics. Many of the conventional products you come across are filled with toxins and chemicals that not only destroy your skin but are also harmful to your overall health. When we say natural skincare, we mean using ingredients that don’t contain toxins. Sometimes a good starting question is: “can I eat it?” You’ll be surprised with how much you can do to enhance and improve your skin with a few kitchen ingredients.
Be sure to read our article on the consequence of chemicals and toxins on your skin to learn about all the ingredients you should avoid.
Making the Switch
A natural skincare routine doesn’t need to be expensive or complicated. There are affordable and simple ways to take care of your skin. Here are some natural tips that have worked really well for me.
Exfoliate the Dry Skin
Every good skincare routine should include a gentle and natural exfoliating recipe. This is the best way to get rid of the dry and flaky skin. There are so many recipes that can make your face feel smooth and supple. One of my absolute favorites is a teaspoon of raw honey mixed with a teaspoon of cinnamon. You can leave this on your skin for 15 minutes, and then gently scrub away and wash off. Your face will feel amazing (and taste even better).
Another great recipe for those who don’t use honey is sugar and sweet almond oil (mixed together in equal parts). You can also add a few drops of tea-tree essential oil for perfection. Scrub away those dead cells for a smooth and soft face.
Cleanse and Tone
When it comes to cleansing and toning your skin, a simple natural bar soap can do wonders. One of my absolute favorites has to be the African Black Soap. It’s made with a natural and vegan formula that performs deep cleansing and leaves your skin feeling amazing. The black soap is made with vitamin E, oats and Aloe Vera, which makes it a great exfoliating product as well.
Another great way to cleanse your skin is once again good old raw honey. You can leave it on your skin for up to 20 minutes and rinse off. It’s effective but also super gentle on the skin.
Last but not least, when it comes to cleansers and toners, give rose water a try! It smells heavenly but also does wonders. You don’t even need to rinse it off. Many people also use rose water for dark circles under the eyes. It will retain the moisture, clean and even out your skin.
Hydrate & Moisturize
We’re finishing off with the most important. When it comes to a natural skincare routine, hydrating and moisturizing the skin is key. This is also another easy area to avoid toxins and chemicals. There are loads of natural moisturizers that you can use and benefit from.
The new cooler season can mean drier skin. This means you can benefit from deep moisturizing. Some of the best natural oils that you can use to hydrate and moisturize your skin, are coconut oil, sweet almond oil, and Argan oil. Try a few to see which you prefer.
Don’t forget about the importance of diet. When we’re talking about hydration, this means drink water! Give your body the good stuff it needs, and like your skincare routine, keep it natural, wholesome and healthy!
New Season New You
Don’t ever forget the importance of a natural skincare routine. The skin is the largest organ in the body and its health is vital! This Autumn, enjoy the cozy jumpers and warm colors, along with a beautiful healthy skin.
