The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
On Sunday, May 8, 2016, is Mother’s Day and this is my first Mother’s Day as a Mother. I have been blessed with the most beautiful and precious gifts of all, a baby girl whose smile lights up my world. She is about 6.5 months old, so I have only been a mother for 6.5 months now. They have been the most amazing, frustrating and fulfilling 6.5 months of my life. Previous to this Mother’s Day, I would usually buy my mom flowers and make her breakfast to show my appreciation for all she has done, but I never really knew the extent and hard work that goes into being a mother. This year I know better and have a whole different appreciation for my mom, who raised four (somewhat), normal kids, without much help from family, because they lived in a different country. But no matter where we are from, or where we live or what we do, we all have mother’s and they are the best things in this world. They root for us when no one else believes in us, they make our favorite foods when we need a lift, at a slightly urgent call of ‘Mom” she comes running without a moment’s hesitation, she has many sleepless nights when we are babies and some when we are older and stay out late at night and she always forgives us and kisses our boo-boo’s better no matter what age we may be. A mother’s love is like no other and the single most beautiful and heart-wrenching thing in this world. So for the mom who gave you life, and has made it her goal to make it amazing don’t you think she deserves a bit of pampering? The answer is obviously YES!
This Mother’s Day, let’s show her how much we appreciate her! We’ve compiled 10 of our very best eco-friendly ideas for showing mom just how special we think she is.
Here are the 10 Best Eco-Friendly Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
1. Walk down Memory Lane
Do you know what a mom really want? To know that she is appreciated, in the big things that they do, and especially in the little everyday things that she does for you. Make her a card, and mention all the little things that she ever did for you and how much it meant and made your life better. Knowing that you remember and appreciate her efforts after all these years will melt any mother’s heart.
2. Set up an at-home spa experience
Who doesn’t love an opportunity to relax, unwind and indulge? Give mom the gift of an at-home spa, so that she can take some time for herself, even if she only has an hour to spare. Draw up a bath and put it together with some candles, a fragrant bath bomb ( The Comforter Bubble Bar from Lush is pretty amazing), and a great book – and most importantly, give her some uninterrupted privacy!
3. Make her home sparkle
Mom’s have been cleaning after us since we were born, as most of our mother’s love to tell us! Thank her for all she does by cleaning the house from top to bottom. Use natural and organic products that will help you get it done in an environmentally-friendly way! A few simple ingredients and those floors, counters, and mirrors will be shining in no time, while mom puts her feet up and enjoys some much-needed rest.
4. Give her an experience
Mom’s don’t always want material objects. Instead, think about a gift that is experience driven: search out a fun class that you and mom can do for a day or get tickets to a good show, an online subscription, a movie, and dinner? Spend quality time doing something that your mom has always wanted to do, but never had the time. This is two gifts in one, quality time and quality gift.
5. Picture Perfect Moments
Put together a scrapbook just for mom. Get all those picture perfect moments, or the not so perfect ones and put them all together for mom. We found one that we love from A Beautiful Mess with a step-by-step guide to creating an awesome, personalized gift using recycled materials and your favorite photos.
6. Make her feel Beautiful
Mom’s are usually the first to wake and last to bed and don’t always have time to pamper herself and put makeup on. Make her feel beautiful, by first telling her that she is and by getting her Cosmetics & Personal Care Items. She deserves the best, so get her organic to make up that is biodegradable, natural, eco-friendly, animal-friendly and chemical free. She’s always looking out for us, now it’s our turn!
7. Plant her a Tree
Our mothers are our roots, they ground us but they also let us grow and reach great heights. Let her know how special she is by planting a tree to celebrate her. By planting a tree in her Honor, you can celebrate her while also giving the gift of life and caring about the environment and replanting forests for a better future.
8. Tea’s and Coffee Gift Basket
Mom’s definitely need their caffeine to function in the morning and throughout the day, how do you think she deals with you? You can arrange a few different types and flavors, maybe with a specialized mug to make the perfect gift. Design your gift basket with organic and locally made chocolate, jam, biscuits or honey. We have a huge selection of herbal teas and coffees. Make sure you have a look.
9. Get her some Bling!
Mom’s definitely like their bling, especially if it is meaningful and thought out. Buy locally and handmade jewelry for that extra special touch. You can get her a mom and child bracelet that is personalized. Engrave your name so that you are always with her, or “I love you” so that she always feels your love.
10. Let her choose
It’s mom’s special day: let her decide how she wants to spend it! Reserve the day and let her know you’re ready to do anything she wants to do – and if all she wants is to spend time with you, have a backup plan like brunch, a hike or a family dinner so that you can have some quality time together.
Every Mother’s Day my mom likes to point out that Mother’s Day is not one day, but it is every day because we are her gifts, and I feel the same way about my baby girl. But it is nice to be appreciated and you shouldn’t wait until Mother’s Day to tell your mom how much you love and appreciate her. Make sure you tell her every day!
