Many of you joined the Veganuary movement this year and took a pledge to give the plant-based diet a try. February is here, but that doesn’t mean we can’t continue with our commitment to the planet, animals and of course, our health. If you’re finding it challenging to keep the momentum going, worry not. We’ve got 5 simple tips to get you all excited and prepared for the months ahead.
Tip #1: Think about why you started in the first place
This is a good time to think about what got you into Veganuary in the first place. It may have been because you’re interested in the welfare of animals, the well being of the planet or your own health – or perhaps all of these important factors got you thinking about how powerful your food choices are. If you feel like you’re losing momentum, then this is a great time to reflect and remind yourself of why you got into it in the first place.
Tip #2: Get creative with your food
One of the best selling points for a plant-based diet is that you don’t have to sacrifice the quality of your food. Over the years veganism has seen such an increase in popularity. This means meat-alternatives and vegan options are out there. So, start exploring all the delicious food ideas available to you. If you’re looking for inspiration and ideas then give the Avant-Garde Vegan a try.
Tip #3: Get family and friends involved
Who doesn’t like food sharing? Cooking and preparing meals with family and friends can be an awesome way of exploring new recipes. When it comes to cooking, everyone has her/his own unique tricks. If veganism is new for your social circle, experimenting with delicious recipes and sharing food can be the perfect way of getting everyone on board and the conversation going.
Tip #4: Meal prep your way through the week
One of the biggest challenges many people face is making sure they have ideas that are easy and simple. This is especially the case if you’re always busy and on the go. This is where prepping comes to your rescue. The first thing you want to do is make sure you’ve done your weekly grocery shopping so you have what you need at hand. Prepare your meals in advance to save time. Why not keep lunches simple and healthy to save time, and get creative when it comes evenings and weekends.
Tip #5: Explore the vegan options in your neighborhood
Stay social and connected to your city and neighborhood by exploring vegan-friendly cafes and restaurants. Changing your diet and lifestyle doesn’t’ mean you can’t enjoy dining out. Happy Cow is a great app to help you find what you need, where you need it.
Veganuary may be over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t continue with all your good work. Transition periods can be tough, but if you give your body the food it needs, and surround yourself with curious people, then you will be just fine.
