Your Step-to-Step Guide to a Natural Facial at Home

Name one person who doesn’t want healthy and vibrant skin? As seasons change, so does our skin. Our sleep, diet and lifestyle impact our skin, which makes it even more important for us to take care of it. To give it what it needs, nourish it, clean it and moisturize it. For various reasons, many of us don’t like to get facials. Some of us just hate the idea of a stranger touching our skin. And for others, it may be too expensive. Another reason many people stay away from facials is because they want to know exactly what ingredients are used on their skin. The point of a facial is to nourish our skin, not to expose it to chemicals and toxins. So with all you beauties in mind, here’s a simple, cheap and natural facial you can do right at home.

Step 1: Surface Cleaning

Okay, let’s get started. The first step to a natural facial is cleaning. Pick an all-natural soap (keep it simple) to thoroughly wash your face. African Black Soap is our absolute favourite. It cleanses and exfoliates all at the same time! You’ll love the natural scent and feel of the soap. The best part is that you can use it as your daily cleanser in the morning and at night to make sure your skin is maintained.

Next, you want to exfoliate even deeper! But don’t go out and buy expensive scrubs that are packed with toxins and chemicals. Make your own: mix one teaspoon of sugar, honey and milk. If you’re looking for a vegan option, try this recipe: two teaspoons of sugar, one teaspoon of sweet almond oil and a drop of tea-tree or lavender essential oil. Scrub your face gently, massaging in a circular motion. Wash and pat dry for the next step.

Step 2: Clean the Pores

Now it’s time to clean your pores! For this step, all you need is a large bowl filled with boiling water and a towel to place over your head. If you’ve got some essential oils at home, add a few drops to set the mood and help you relax. Allow 10 minutes in this steaming step.

Your pores are now open and ready for a deep cleanse. Here, you want to prepare your very own natural mask. One recipe that works really well is a mixture of baking soda and lemon juice (equal parts) and a drop of tea-tree oil. If you’ve got sensitive or dry skin, you may want to skip on this mask. Instead, use honey! Leave the mask on for 15 minutes. While you wait, why not slice some cucumbers or teabags to place over your eyes to help prevent dark circles. Sit back and relax. Once done, wash and pat dry.

Step 3: Toning and Moisturizing

On to the final step of your natural facial – you’re face is now clean and ready for some toning and moisturizing action.
